Protect our Choice for Drug-Free Milk—Without Bovine Growth Hormone (rbGH/rbST)

Posted in GM Health Effects by stopmonsanto on April 14, 2009

Unlike Raw, Organic Milk, conventional store shelves are lined with numerous brands of hormone, chemical, DDT, fungicide, defoliant and radioactive fallout, cow’s milk produced by abused animals injected with rBGH. HB2121 is a bill that will make it very complicated for national dairy brands to properly label their products as rBGH free. Please email Governor Sebelius before the deadline to veto HB2121, which is April 16th.

Quick rBGH Facts (Genetically-engineered bovine growth hormone)

Despite the lies by Monsanto and the FDA rBGH is unsafe for humans and cows alike.

• rBGH makes cows sick. Monsanto has been forced to admit to about 20 veterinary health risks on its Posilac label including mastitis and udder inflammation.
• rBGH milk is contaminated by pus from mastitis induced by rBGH, and antibiotics used to treat the mastitis.
• rBGH milk is contaminated by the GE hormone which can be absorbed through the gut and induce immunological effects.
• rBGH milk is chemically and nutritionally very different from natural milk.
• rBGH milk is supercharged with high levels of a natural growth factor (IGF-1), excess levels of which have been incriminated as major causes of breast, colon, and prostate cancers.
• rBGH factory farms pose a major threat to the viability of small dairy farms. Thus, rBGH enriches Monsanto while posing risks but no benefits to the entire U.S. population.

Coca Cola’s New GM Hoax: Truvia.

Posted in Sweeteners by stopmonsanto on April 11, 2009

Countless people are now being pulled into Coca Cola’s prime new hoax: the genetically modified sweetener Truvia. Do not let them fool you as Truvia is not the same as Stevia. This is because Stevia is an extract of half a dozen natural steviosides (glycosides), and Truvia is chemically pure Rebaudioside A, derived from genetically modified plants. Long term studies must be taken before we can fully understand what Truvia does to the human body. Consuming this product is being a guinea pig for this GM fraud.

A list of Truvia side effects can be found here.

Massive GM Corn Failure in South Africagm cr

Posted in Crop Failure by stopmonsanto on April 10, 2009

Workers in South Africa who were scammed into false promises by Monsanto were recently brought the truth about GM corn, but not without the cost of losing their jobs. Corn is the main staple in South Africa and this failure is destroying the lives of many. The three maize varieties which failed to produce seeds were designed with a built-in resistance to weed-killers, and manipulated to increase yields per hectare. 82,000 hectares of genetically-manipulated corn (maize) failed to produce hardly any seeds. As expected Monsanto underestimates the up to 80% crop failure and blames it on, “underfertilisation processes in the laboratory”.

Environmental activist and Director of the Africa-centre for biosecurity in Johannesburg, Marian Mayet, is calling for not only an immediate government investigation on the GM, maize crops, but also a ban on all GM-foods. “Monsanto says they just made a mistake in the laboratory; however we say that biotechnology is a failure. You cannot make a ‘mistake’ with three different varieties of corn”, says Mayet.

Just like the United States, South Africa does not require labels on GM food. Efforts to label the food do subsist, including the supermarket chain Woolworths, who banned all sales of GM food since 2000.

Health Affects of GM corn

• Infertility
• Abnormal Gene Expression
• Allergic Reactions
• Rats fed Monsanto’s Mon 863 corn, engineered to produce Bt-toxin, had liver lesions and other indications of toxicity.
• Chickens fed the herbicide tolerant “Liberty Link” corn died at twice the rate of those fed natural corn.
• About two dozen farmers reported that thousands of their pigs had reproductive problems when fed certain varieties of Bt corn

GM corn is undeniably dangerous to human health and the environment.

Monsanto Forces GMOs on Africa

Posted in Crop Failure by stopmonsanto on April 10, 2009

On March 31st the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved S.384 The Global Food Security Act of 2009. The bill says the U.S. must fund GMOs and Biotechnology. Section 22: Foreign Relations and Intercourse states, “(4) include research on biotechnological advances appropriate to local ecological conditions, including genetically modified technology. Please check La Vida Locavore for extensive information.

The fact that this bill even includes information for GMOs is big news. Passed bills have funded ag research and considered, “the special needs of small farmers, the interrelation between technology, institutional capacity, the environment and cultural factors, and extensive field testing of technology.” Now, all of a sudden Big Biotech is brought into the mix. Mandatory U.S. GM research programs are also trouble for countries that ban GM seeds and crops, like many in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. This bill could mean the difference of rejecting food aid, or letting GMOs into their countries.

In short this is a bill to further destroy the planet and ruin food crops with more Genetic Engineering. The government is sneaking these bills into legislation and the public has no say. Only one word enters my mind which is: tyranny, and we need to wake up from the matrix before it is too late and every food is Genetically Modified.

Even Low Levels of Roundup Damage Cells

Posted in GM Health Effects by stopmonsanto on April 9, 2009

An interesting study from the University of Caen in France reveals that low levels of Monsanto’s Roundup found in both GM food and feed can cause cell damage and even death. Roundup is the number-one selling herbicide worldwide, most going directly to GM crops.

The study also showed that the active ingredient in Roundup (glyphosate), “We also noted membrane and DNA damages, and found that the formulations inhibit cell respiration. In addition, it was shown that the mixture of the components used as Roundup adjuvants amplified the action of the active principle called glyphosate; one of its metabolites may be even more toxic.” Marketed formulations of glyphosate generally contain a surfactant. The purpose of this is to prevent the chemical from forming into droplets and rolling off leaves which are sprayed. Some of these surfactants are serious irritants, toxic to fish, and can themselves contain contaminants which are carcinogenic to humans.

This study serves as another piece of evidence that GMOs are undoubtedly unsafe.

GMO Free Make-up!

Posted in Body Care Products by stopmonsanto on April 3, 2009

Skin is the largest organ in the body: it absorbs everything, even the pesticides built into GMOs. Interestingly enough- physicians formula has a line of surprisingly affordable organic wear. They offer 100% GMO, paraben, fragrance, and preservative free make-up. Compared to many other products that falsely claim to be “natural” and “organic” that are really filled with harsh chemicals, this is the real deal. Their products range from blushes to sunscreen. The point is: you no longer have to pay top dollar in order to keep your make-up carcinogen free. There are many others brands of organic make-up available, but I suggest using The Cosmetic Database to check out the safety of your body care products.

Here is a quick list of 10 Ingredients you never want to put on your skin:

1. imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea

2. Methyl and Propyl and Butyl and Ethyl Paraben

3. Petrolatum

4. Propylene Glycol

5. PVP/VA Copolymer

6. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

7. Stearalkonium Chloride

8. Synthetic Colors

9. Synthetic Fragrances

10. Triethanolamine
